Exercise during pregnancy?

I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and I am becoming somewhat unhappy with my body. I am very proud of my bump, however I am not particularly happy that due to lack of exercise that my arms and my legs are no longer as toned as they once were. I used a rowing machine before I was pregnant and I am now unable to use it due to the pressure it causes on my stomach. What ways can I tone my arms and my legs which are safe and have good results? Its getting nearer to summer and I dont want to be so self conscious that I refuse to wear skirts and vests

Your upper body is pretty easy - you can use two five-pound hand weights and do reps of bicep curls, etc. It's tough to find a good online guide targeted towards pregnancy, but if you stick with those that can be done standing or seated, you'll be fine.

Lower body is a bit trickier. An exercycle is usually your best bet - a recumbent exercycle works well, too. Or good ol' fashioned walking, on the treadmill or out in the world will do you some good.

You might also look into a prenatal exercise class. Hospitals sometimes offer them through their education programs at low or no cost. That way you can get really good guidance on what's appropriate for your week and body type.

Body image aside, exercise is a good idea - it's one of the best things we can do for ourselves and our babies. So good for you!
